Chapter Thirty-One

I finish putting aluminum foil on the last dish when I hear Collin’s truck pull into the driveway. Thank God. I didn’t want to carry all of this by myself to Holly’s house. Michelle offered to help but I told her to go over to Holly’s and that I would meet her there. It feels weird to have the book club somewhere other than the bookstore.

“Honey, I’m hooome.” Collin sings from the foyer. I can’t help the giggle that escapes me.

“Will I ever get used to this?” I ask. He wraps his hands around my waist and kisses me.

“Depends on what you’re referring to.” He says.

“If you’re referring to the smoke show you call your boyfriend, maybe.” He shrugs. I smirk and shake my head.

“Let’s get this loaded in the truck so we aren’t late,”

We arrive at Holly and Matt’s house in twenty minutes. The driveway is already filled with vehicles. We park as close as we can and pile the food on top of our hands to bring it all in with one trip. Thankfully Collin took more than I did, or I didn’t think it would all make to the door.

The doorbell rings throughout the house and the door opens moments later. Matt stands in the doorway and grabs the dishes from my arms as soon as I try to step forward.

“Come in and I’ll take these into the kitchen,” Matt says.

Collin follows him into the kitchen, and I follow the laughter into the living room. They still have their Christmas lights up and it lights up the windows. Everyone is sitting and talking to each other with their book in their lap. Michelle notices me and walks over.

“What do you think?” She twirls around to show me Holly’s decorations. I told her that I would bring the food so she wouldn’t have to do anything but provide a place to meet. Of course, she went out and bought bookish decorations. They complement all of the Christmas decorations they left up.

“She outdid herself,” I say.

“Thank you,” Holly says from behind me. She steps around me and hugs me.

“Did you hear that Tyler and Lewis are coming tonight?” Holly asks.

“No, Collin didn’t mention that.”

“Who’s that?” Michelle asks.

“Just some guys that work at the fire station.” Holly clarifies. Michelle looks excited and smirks.

“Maybe we should host the book club at Holly’s more often. Books and hot men to look at. Sign me up every time.” Michelle says with a chuckle. As if the devil heard his name, Tyler walks through the front door and follows Collin and Matt into the living room. Collin finds me in a matter of minutes.

“Hey where’s Lewis?” I ask.

They all shrug and Collin comes to wrap his arm around my waist. Matt kisses Holly on the forehead and she smiles up at him. At first glance, you wouldn’t think they would be in a relationship together. Matt is on the rougher side with his scruffy facial hair and longer hair. He honestly gives me biker vibes.
